Newly crowned Mr. Greater Western body building champion Derrick Olara has been stripped off the victory after he failed to comply with Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) Act.

Kenya Body Building Federation (KBBF) Chairman Chris Omedo further said Olara has been banned for two years from taking part in any body building competition.

“Olara refused to have his urine samples taken by ADAK team, which was a violation of the agency’s Act,” said Omedo.

“Antidoping Agency of Kenya were on the ground during the Mr./Ms. Greater Western  Bodybuilding competition held in Kisumu last Saturday and took several urine samples for tests from our Participants but Olara did not oblige and vehemently refused to give out urine sample. This is a serious offence under the Ant Doping Rules violations Act (ADRV)  punishable under noncompliance Act,” added the Chairman.

Early this year, Omedo said his federation signed a memorandum of understanding with ADAK to abide by the Antidoping rules which is mandatory to all the federations.

“Any athlete can be tested anywhere and anytime by ADAK,” he added.

Omedo said the compliance Act is in blue and white that if the an athlete refuses to have his urine sample taken by the Antidoping Agency  then that is noncompliance that attracts a two year sanction thus being stripped of all the accolades.

The Federation had to strip off the winner of all the accolades with the further advice from the Antidoping Agency of Kenya.

Omedo said his committee will meet soon once the ADAK report is availed to them. “We want to use Olara’s case as an example to other athletes who use banned substances to book their muscles in body building,” warned Omedo.

As a result, Omedo said Olara who had been declared the overall winner has been stripped off the win and handed over to the second placed Maryin Okello. Michael Otieno who had settled for the third positiosn was declared the runners-up. Princillah Ibalai won the bikini category while Alfred Chuchu won the male physique category. Figure categhory award went to Phone Aluoch.
