Former Football Kenya Federation Women Premier League champions Thika Queens will host defending champions Vihiga Queens today at Thika Sub County Stadium.
This will be a repeat of last season’s play-off fixture where Vihiga Queens defeated Thika 2-1 to claim their maiden title.
This will be the third time the sides will meet following a play-off fixture in 2015 when Thika emerged victorious with two goals to nil to get the title.
Both sides have not lost a match this season with Thika in second place on the log standing with 15 points from five matches while Vihiga is fifth with 12 points from four matches.
Speaking to The Standard Sports, Vihiga Queens coach Alex Alumira said this will be a big match adding that the girls have matured enough to handle any pressure.
“It’s going to be one of the big matches of the weekend but at this moment, it’s not that special.
“We are prepared as a team to play and try to get a result because any positive result away from home is good.
“Thika is a good side and I know they will put in all they can to try and win the match.
“The problem with the timing is that the match comes after a long break,” Alumira said.
Thika Queens coach Chrisantus Otsieno said: “We have prepared well although some players have been in the national team.
“We respect all teams in the Women Premier League and we are hoping to get a positive result from this match,” he told Standard Sports on Thursday.
