Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly been in regular contact with Barcelona defender Samuel Umititi to try and persuade him to move to Old Trafford in the summer.
Despite the Frenchman willingness to stay at Camp Nou, Barcelona chiefs are still not sure if he will remain because he is yet to agree terms on a new deal.
According to reports from Metro, it is believed that Barcelona have accepted that the 24-year-old will join United in the summer and have already drawn a list of potential replacements, with Schalke’s defender Thilo Kehrer, Sevilla’s Clement Lenglet and RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano making the cut.
However, they are still fighting to tie down the star to a new contract in a bid to keep him in the club for next season.
If the deal goes through, Umtiti will join up with France teammates, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial. He will link up with Erick Bailly at the heart of the Manchester United defence.
Umtiti has a release clause of £52million which obviously is a possible for United to raise. He has been at the club since 2016 and is known for his physical strength, ability to anticipate and prowess in getting the ball up the field-qualities that fits Manchester United and the Premier League
