Before winning the major trophies and all the major awards in the world of footbal, Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, commonly known as Ronaldinho Gaucho won the heart of every football fan.

According to the Mirror, the Barcelona legend who retired from football last year, is swapping the football field for politics as he wants to ‘give something back to his country.’

The Brazilian is planning to run for either the Senate or in the Chamber of Deputies. Documents approving his candidacy for Brazilian Republican Party (PRB) were signed in Brasilia before members of the party.

“I am happy to be able to participate in a project aimed at improving our country and bringing modernity, joy and health to the entire population," he said during the ceremony.

The 37-year-old's dream of entering into politics was seen last year when he surprisingly announced he wanted to contest in the elections under the Patriots Party (PEN) aligning himself with presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro.

However, Bolsonaro’s planned alliance with the PEN failed to happen in January and the congressman has since joined another political party.

The Brazilian Republican Party (PRB) made a quick approach to Ronaldinho after Bolsonaro ticket failed to materialize.

“This a historic moment like so many other moments in Ronaldinho's life.” PRB President Senator Eduardo said as reported by Mirror.

“He gave Brazil his talent and ability and now with his wonderful life story he will contribute to the country through the PRB.

“And he will wear the number 10 shirt again. But this time he will be signed to the PRB,” he added.

The leader of the party in the Chamber of Duties Celso Russomano also said that Ronaldinho ‘has great experience in the field of sports and wants to defend the flag in government.’

"His name is well loved, and he is a player of character and expression.”

“He has done a lot for the sport as a player and I hope he does much more as a politician.” Russomano said.

Ronaldinho will be joined in the campaign by his brother Roberto de Assis Moreira who has signalled his candidacy for the 2018 elections and PRB believes that the ‘siblings’ membership will strengthen the party’s status and being that they are two great names who wants the best for the country, they will attract many voters.

Ronaldinho, if elected, will follow in the footsteps of another footballing legend Romario who now represents Rio as a Senator after taking up political office in 2011.

Meanwhile, the football legend is celebrating his 38th Birthday today.

 HAPPY BIRTHDAY RONALDINHO GAUCHO.
