Luis Suarez has revealed a subtle change made by Lionel Messi during Barcelona's match at Chelsea as the Catalan giants came from behind to take a draw back to the Nou Camp.

Willian fired Chelsea ahead in the second half in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie.

But Messi struck to level the score and net his first ever goal against the Blues to ensure Chelsea must notch in the return leg.

And Suarez admits Messi was growing frustrated at not being able to impact the game as he would like in forward areas, so dropped deeper to pull the strings.

"In these kind of games you have to be smart," said the Uruguayan.

"Leo could not create many situations of danger being close to me so he threw himself backwards to look for these type of situations."

Former Liverpool striker Suarez is confident Barca can finish the job in front of their home fans after scoring a crucial away goal.

"The result is good, they have to go there to score a goal," he added. "It will not be easy, but we can benefit from that.

"We are stronger at home. They will be forced to score and we will have more space."
