The Kenya Parliament team is looking forward to an impressive outing in the eighth edition of the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games that kicks off today in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The 10-day regional tournament themed ‘Integrating Citizens and Strengthening Inter-Parliamentary Relations through Sports’, brings together the National Parliaments of Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, and Uganda.

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) staff will participate in the tournament as a guest team following the withdrawal of Rwanda and South Sudan.

Kenya will seek to defend the volleyball and golf titles they won during last year’s tournament in Mombasa, where they also finished as runners-up in the tug of war and athletics.

Uganda clinched the overall title last year after dominating most of the disciplines that included men’s football, netball, and tug of war.

Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi, who was accompanied by Bunge FC chairman and Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi, is leading the Kenyan delegation on behalf of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

Webuye West MP and former Kenyan international Dan Wanyama will captain the volleyball team as Kieni MP Kanini Kega leads the golf team.

Luanda MP Christopher Omulele is in charge of the tug of war squad, while the women’s volleyball team will be captained by Malindi legislator Aisha Jumwa.

The tournament to be officiated by Tanzanian Parliament Speaker Job Ndugai will be preceded by a half-day pre-tournament conference aimed at nurturing networking and bonding among the legislators tomorrow.
