Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon organisers have received financial boost ahead of the 15th edition of the event on November 26.

Eleven companies have injected Sh40million towards this year’s event. Standard Chartered, who are the title sponsors, have invested Sh100m to the event that continues to serve as a platform for budding road-race runners since its inauguration in 2003.

Some of the event’s partners and co-sponsors include Athletics Kenya, who have extended their partnership to 2022, Nairobi County Government, IS Solutions, Alpine Coolers, Sanlam Insurance and Safaricom.

Others are AUA (CCTV), Avenue Health, Parapet, Subaru Kenya Ecta, Kenafric Diaries, KICC and Nakumatt.

“These contributions make it possible for us to continuously improve the marathon every year. Being the largest sporting event in Kenya, the Nairobi Marathon plays an important role in profiling our nation,” said Local Organizing Committee (LOC) chairman, Peter Gitau.

Gitau added that the registration process is going on and expressed optimism that the organisers will reach the projected 25,000 participants.

“Registrations are being done online. All participants, individual and corporate, can register through the official marathon website after paying Sh2,000 each by November 17.

“However, there will be a window to accommodate marathon enthusiasts, who would have missed our deadline, but at increased cost of Sh2,500 between November18- 24, ” Gitau added.

Last month, the LOC moved the annual race from October to November 26, after IEBC rescheduled the repeat presidential date to October 26.
