Kenya has begun its campaign of the 2017 African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Africa men's championship on a losing note on Sunday, Egypt.

Kenya has lost its opening Pool B match to Ghana in straight sets (16-25, 24-26, 16-25), match played at 15:00hr EAT at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex in Cairo.

Head coach Moses Epoloto was speechless during the sad affair in Cairo, but he expressed optimism though, I did not expect this, but we have worked hard, though with a few technical errors. We will bounce back, I am still hopeful," retorted Epoloto.

The loss is a big blow to power house Kenya who on paper should have easily dispatched their lower ranked opponents. Statically, Kenya ranked position 50 in the world looked ferocious before the match.

The West African minnows Ghana, ranked a distant 95, took the match seriously leading the first set with early scores. After the final whistle, it came as no suprise judging the way Kenya displayed their formation.

The Moses Epoloto led charges will next play Tunisia at 18:00hr on Monday 23rd followed on Tuesday by Lybia at 19:00hr. Kenya now must win their following respective matches to enhance their chances of survival.
