K’Ogalo are just looking for a draw or win to seal it off

Gor Mahia can claim their record 16th league title this afternoon in Kericho with a draw or win against Ulinzi Stars.

K’Ogalo (63 points) leads their closest rivals Sofapaka by fifteen points at the top of the table and now just need to avoid defeat in Rift Valley for Dylan Kerr to clinch his first title as K’ogalow coach.

And with the striking duo of Jacques Tuyisenge and Meddie Kagere’s scintillating form, the Soldiers’ backline face a Herculean task of preventing the two red-hot golden-boot hopefuls from delivering an early Christmas gift to the Green Army faithful.

The Nakuru based team held Gor Mahia 2-2 in Kisumu in their first leg encounter.

However, a bullish Kerr has warned his players not to think about the title but bagging the maximum points.

“I am not thinking about the title, what I want is the three points. I have told the players to get the three points first and then the title will come later. I hate losing and I don’t want a draw,” Kerr told The Standard Sports.

“So far, the players have given me everything I have requested. But Ulinzi is a strong team with quality players, so let them go out there enjoy themselves, finish the season early and on a high note.”

His sentiments were echoed by defender Harun Shakava, who was part of the team that won back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015.

“I think, it is not yet celebration time. It has always been a difficult match whenever these two teams meet. We need to push until the end and give a chance to the fringe players in the remaining matches,” Shakava said.

Meanwhile, it will be a different scenario at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma County tomorrow where Tusker interim coach Francis Barasa will be looking for his third straight win since taking over from his suspended boss George Nsimbe a few days ago.

“We are not going there for revenge. Nzoia is a young and talented team that cannot be underrated,” Barasa said.
