Chess: Shuhb Shah shines in inaugural tourney

Shuhb Shah of Oshwal Academy Mombasa was the winner in the boys Under 8 category of the inaugural Light House Inter-Schools Chess tournament held at his school on Saturday.

Shah collected maximum six points to beat a strong field of 10 players. The girls’ category was won by Zahra Abdulkadir from Aga Khan Primary School.

The U-18 category was more competitive and attracted a record 49 players, but Gautham Parameswaran from Oshwal High School had no problem emerging winner with five points.

He was followed by Ramesh Deven from Aga Khan, who collected four points, while Chiraq Vijay from Aga Khan Primary School finished third overall.

Pendo Hassan from Mikoroshoni Primary School was the girls winner after she collected four points. She was followed by Marryam Sajjid of Aga Khan Primary and Patricia Nyevu from Mikoroshoni Primary.

Overall, Oshwal Academy emerged the top school followed by Logos Christian School while Aga Khan Primary were third. Seven schools took part in the tournament.
