Soldiers now turn focus to league action.

Ulinzi Stars wasted a number of chances before bowing out of the GOtv Shield after going down to Sony Sugar by a solitary goal in a scrappy tie at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru yesterday.

Amos Asembeka scored the lone goal from the spot after Laban Gambasereko was fouled in the box and the referee did not hesitate to point at the spot.

Taking the resultant kick, Asembeka sent Ulinzi custodian Jacktone Odhiambo the wrong way.

Earlier, Kenyan Premier League (KPL) top scorer Steve Waruru shook the net in the 44th minute but he was ruled offside.

Sensing danger, Ulinzi head Benjamin Nyangweso benched Cliff Kasuti for Enosh Ochieng who missed two golden opportunities in the in the 75th and 78th minutes with only Sony custodian Kevin Omondi to beat.

Nyangweso admitted having lost to the better side, but also rued the missed chances.

“It was not good day for us after we missed so many chances that came our way and we focus on our next match in the Premier League,” he told Standard Sports in a post-match interview. In Mumias, AFC Leopards have advanced to last 16 after edging out Nairobi Stima 2-0.

Goals from Aziz Okaka and Joshua Mawira is all Leopards needed to win.

It was a sweet win for Leopards who went down to Kariobangi Sharks in a KPL.

Stima had threatened early on with Ivan Anguyo’s free kick going wide.

Then Leopards fought back with Majid Victor and Vincent Oburu both coming close.

In Mombasa, Eldoret Youth made it to the last 16 after beating Kilifi’s Young Divers 2-0 in a match played at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.
