Crystal Palace have confirmed the appointment of Frank de Boer as their new manager.

The Dutchman has joined the Eagles on a three-year deal as he replaces Sam Allardyce following the former England manager's decision to walk away at the end of last season.

De Boer becomes the Eagles third manager in 12 months and arrives after being sacked by Inter last year when he won just five our of 14 games in a three-month stint at the San Siro.

That came after a successful period at Ajax, where the former Netherlands and Barcelona midfielder won four titles in six years.

After missing out on number one target Marco Silva who joined Watford from Hull, Palace chief Steve Parish has turned to the Dutchman.

Parish said: "I suppose this is the worst kept secret in footabal. We are delighted that he has agreed to join us on a three year deal; we are really excited about what we can achieve together at the club."

Palace took to social media on Monday morning to suggest that an appointment was imminent, as they posted a video of white smoke billowing out of a Caribbean takeaway, echoing the method that the Vatican use to announce that a new Pope has been appointed.
