Former lady captain wins title at Nyali while Muratha floors them in Thika tournament

For Nyali Golf and Country club’s Teresia Odoo, she has been on this course for a while now.

The fairways have been her friend. Her putts have been spot on, her vision close to none, while her swing has always been a marvel to behold.

Being the club’s former captain, she has has been to numerous tournaments, including playing at home; Nyali Golf and Country Club. But when playing at home, much has always been expected of her.

And over the weekend, it was no different. She was expected to deliver and surely she did. She posted an excellent 71 nett to win the 2017 April Medal at the par 71 course in Mombasa.

Playing off handicap 14, Odoo rolled seven level pars and played a mixed bogey shots in rest of both nines to win the Division One title in the one-day 18-hole event sponsored by Johnnie Walker.

Club-mate Susan Stokes, playing off handicap 16, was the runner-up on 73 nett.

Nyali’s handicap 24 Pia Swatton was the Division Two winner on 70 nett, while handicap 27 Farida Saeed, who had 77 nett, finished second.

Meanwhile, at the par 72 Thika Sports Club, handicap 20 James Muratha won the Charles Ikenye and Simon Maimba Memorial tournament.

Muratha beat a field of 126 golfers when he posted a double 20 points in each nine for a countback score of 40 points to win the men’s title. He tied on the same points with club-mate handicap 14 Moses Gatonye, who was second.

Milka Mburu, also from Thika and playing off handicap 35, was the lady winner on 40 points (18-22) and handicap 24 Njambi Njoroge was second with one point less.

J.N.Ikenye was the sponsor’s winner on 40 points (19-21), while Ruiru’s Patrick Wamae, on 37 points, (21-16) was the Guest winner.
