Kenya’s oldest and prestigious golf tournament, Tannahill Shield, returns to the lush and green par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club this Friday.
The host club will be seeking to lift the trophy of the three-day tournament for the fourth time in a row.
The defending champions won last year's edition with 53 points. They beat runners-up Limuru and Vetlab, who tied in second place with 38 points a piece, with a 15 point margin- the biggest margin in the past ten years.
Railways Golf Club were third place with 33 points last year, while Sigona and Muthaiga Golf Clubs were fifth with 30 points each. Karen had 27 points and Western 25 points. Mombasa Sports Club, a sister club of Royal Nairobi Golf Club was ninth with 14 points.
Clubs that have so far registered for the 92nd edition of the tournament this year includes Sigona, Limuru, Railway,Western Kenya,Mombasa and Vet Lab.
While urging members to turn up in large numbers to support the champions, Royal Nairobi Golf Club representative and CEO Grace Muchiri said it's an Easter holiday and members should turn up in large numbers.
The main event will commence on Friday with the normal briefing by Royal Club captain ahead of the tee off. The main tournament will then run from Friday to Sunday.
The main tournament will be preceded by a junior foursome to be held at the venue today. The registered clubs for the main event have utilised Monday and Tuesday to train and have a feel of the course and fairways ahead of the Friday tee off.
The Tannahill Golf Tournament is played by teams of amateur golfers from various clubs, who showcase their golfing skills, while enjoying the company of other competing golfers.
