Like us, you probably have been popping the pasta in a pan and adding water before heating it up on the stove.

This is the beauty of pasta, how simple and straightforward it is to prepare.

But what if we told you there was a much more efficient way of cooking pasta?

Here is the step-by-step guide, as reported in Cosmopolitan .

It's the sort of dish everyone has cooked

1. Pan, not pot.

Yes, it may go against everything you've been taught, but you need to ditch the saucepan or pot in favour of a frying pan .

2. Pasta first.

Then put your pasta in the pan before you add the water.

3. Then this.

Rather than adding the pasta to hot water, you then add two litres of COLD water to the pasta. The reason for this temperature is because it prevents the pasta from sticking together.

Halve the time it takes to cook your favourite pasta dish

The amount of water may depend on the amount of pasta, but it should cover the pasta by half an inch or so.

4. And finally...

Turn the stove up to a medium-high heat, and stir occasionally.

Your pasta should cook in about 10 minutes, and, what's more, you should be left with enough starchy water, which makes a great base for a tasty sauce.
