Former Football Kenya (FKF) Federation chairman Sam Nyamweya has moved to court seeking to suspend club licensing rules that have rocked the start of the 2017 Kenyan Premier League season.

The former football boss in a case filed yesterday against his successor Nick Mwendwa, Robert Muthomi, the Kenyan Premier League company as well as the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) claims the current deadlock is hurting Kenyan fans and at the same time not healthy for football in the country.

In his court papers, Nyamweya also claimed that the regulations put up to expand the league were done unilaterally and were are against Fifa and Confederation of African Football (CAF) guidelines.

He also raised fears that if the current stalemate is allowed to continue, Kenya might miss out on hosting the continental African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2018 competition.

Nyamweya wants the High Court to suspend the CAF Club Licensing regulations and orders of the SDT dated January 10 that suspended the start of the KPL as well as the second-tier National Super League pending determination of his case.

Muhoroni Youth fans also went to court to ask the KPL start to be stopped over the same.
