Kenya Ports Authority women basketball title chase was put on hold after they were beaten by a half basket by Equity Bank in Game Two of the best of five national play-offs final at Makande Indoor Gymnasium, Mombasa.

The KPA ladies, who had won Game One 62-43 on Saturday found the going tough yesterday after they lost 56-55 to the bankers who levelled the tally to 1-1 as the teams move to Nairobi for Game Three.

Both teams tied 46-46 in yesterday’s match before they went for more five minutes of extra time.

Salmas Adhiambo was the top scorer for KPA with 23 points with Nathel Akinyi adding 11. Hilda Indaji had 19 points while Mercy Wanyama had 16 for the bankers.

In men’s match, KPA won their first match against Cooperative Bank with a narrow but hard-fought 60-56 win. The two teams were to meet last evening in the second match.

In the first match, the dockers led in all the four quarters.

They led 19-14 and went ahead to enjoy a 33-31 lead at half time. KPA won the third quarter 15-9 before narrowly winning the fourth quarter with half a basket 11-10.

Martin Katongo hit the high score for KPA with 13 points while Arou Ramadhan added 11. William Shamanthe and James Mwangi hit 12 and 11 respectively for the bankers.
