Wahome Paragon shot a Hole in one on par-3, hole No 12 which plays 146 yards using a 9 iron after his caddy refused to give hive him his choice of a 5 iron at par 72 Nyeri Golf Club during the Mary Mungai tournament.
As a result, Wahome offered to sponsor a golf tournament for caddies instead of buying drinks for all present in line with the golfing tradition for achieving the rare feat.
The last time a golfer holed out an ace on the course was eight years ago in the year 2008.
It was, however, Dr Ephantus Mate who scooped overall honours after posting a superb round of 37 (20+17 stableford points. The Nyeri based gynecologist playing off handicap 12 said: “I am happy that I played last, which enabled me to collect all the pars, buddies and birdies that were left by all the teams before us and that is how I won today’s tournament”.
George Muraguri playing off handicap 15 took the Men prize on 36 (17+19) stableford points, Club captain Bishop Jacob Kamere won Men second on an identical score of 36 (18+18) stableford points.
Eng. Kenneth Chege finished third on 34 (16+18) stableford points as Joe Wachiuri followed with 34 (17+17) stableford points.
Nyeri clubs’ Lady captain Jane Munyori was the winner on 31 (15+16) stableord points, as Florence Gathu settled for second on 30 (20+10) points.
Guest prize went to handicap 5 Antony Mwaura on 33 (16+17) stableford points as Sponsor’s guest prize went to handicap 4 Simon Maina 33 (18+15) stableford points, F Kahuruka playing off handicap 9, took Sponsor’s Guest runner-up on 33 (19+14) stableford points.
Nanyuki sports clubs’ Captain Jadiel Muriungi won the Longest drive prize in the Men category with Jane Njoroge winning Longest drive for ladies.
