MOMBASA: Good Hope remains top of Top Eight log

Good Hope extended their lead at the summit of the Mombasa Super Eight Premier League with a comfortable 2-0 win over Cross Roads at Mombasa Technical Training Institute.

Mohamed Mwamlandi scored the opener in the 35th minute before Gift Vitalis added the second in the 79th minute. Cross Roads are ninth with 28 points.

In other matches Wananyuki hit LYSA 3-2, Bamburi United stopped Likoni Spurs 2-0 while Umba Sports scored a goal through Lamen Oduor in the 69th minute to beat Boca Junior 1-0.

TAE-KWONDO: Al Miraj shines at Mombasa Open

Al-Miraj tae-kwondo club of Mombasa shook off stiff competition to emerge the overall winners of the annual Mombasa tae-kwondo Agility Logistics Limited Cup at Oshwal Academy, Nyali.

They bagged three gold and a silvera medal. Hosts Oshwal Academy, Nyali were second with two gold, a silver and three bronze medals while Mombasa Tae-kwondo Club, Nyali settled for the third position with two gold, a silver and a bronze.

In school and college categories, Sheikh Khalifa were the champions after winning five goal, four silver and a bronze with Jesus Celebration Center High School settling for the second slot with two gold, three and two silver and bronze respectively.

Technical University of Mombasa occupied the third slot with two gold, a silver and two bronze.

NETBALL: Kwese TV to broadcast matches in Africa

Netball lovers from across Africa will now enjoy their favourite game courtesy of Econet’s Kwese Sports TV channel. Econet signed a three-year deal with Africa Netball that gave Kwese Sports the sole broadcast rights starting November 1 this year.

 The deal will see Kwese air netball events across Sub-Saharan Africa including in the East Africa Tournament and 2017 Africa Netball Championships.

Though Africa is reach in netball talent if the rankings of the continent’s countries is anything to go by, the sport has been neglected. South Africa ranked fifth, Malawi sixth, Uganda 11th, Zambia 16th, Botswana 20th, Zimbabwe 21st and Swaziland 30th in the world according to the International Netball Federation.
