Gor maintain winning streak

Gor Mahia left it late to pick maximum points against Western Stima after winning 1-0 at Moi Stadium in Kisumu yesterday.

At Nyayo Stadium, Ushuru won 1-0 against Kakamega Homeboyz, Mathare won by a similar score away in Bandari and at Afraha Stadium, Ulinzi floored Nairobi City Stars 3-0.

With the Gor versus Stima match headed for a barren draw, Francis Kahata scored in injury time to separate the two sides.

The former Thika United midfielder, who came on for Godfrey Walusimbi, soared to head home an Enock Agwanda well-executed corner kick.

The Kenyan Premier League champions were well-motivated coming into this match. Buoyed by that 2-0 victory against Muhoroni Youth at the same venue last Saturday, K’Ogalo looked determined to repeat their performance against Stima.

Gor got off to a start they would have wished for, with George Odhiambo setting up Eric Ouma early on, but the move ended up in a fruitless free-kick by Jacques Tusiyenge.

It did not take long for Stima to settle, with Steven Muguna steady in midfield as he denied Gor Mahia forwards room.

Karim Nzigiyimana split the Stima backline with a splendid cross, which gave Gabriel Andika a few scary moments, as he struggled to contain the danger.

At the 20th minute, Odhiambo was denied from a header. Despite good efforts from both sides, no one broke the deadlock at the break and the battle to get ahead continued steadily in the second half.

Gor Mahia were more threatening as they penetrated their opponents’ backline amidtight-marking. Following their victory, they moved third on the log.

At Nyayo Stadium, Ushuru bounced back to winning ways after defeating Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0. The match was decided in the 85th minute when Kennedy Oduor scored for Ushuru.

Both teams could not find the back of the net, despite creating numerous chances. For more than 80 minutes, it was all even and perhaps, the match was destined for a draw.

However, a defensive lapse by the Homeboyz back four cost them dearly and despite fighting back, they could not level the scores.

In Mombasa, Bandari continued with their poor run after they lost 1-0 to visiting Mathare United. Despite being 10 men, after Humphrey Okoti was sent off, it did not show for United as they bagged three points, thanks to Robinson Kamura’s 73rd minute goal.

In Nakuru, goals from John Makwata, Enosh Ochieng and John Nairuka helped Ulinzi Stars secure their biggest win yet, following a 3-0 victory over Nairobi City Stars.
