KCB in fight for their lives as relegation battle intensifies it Sportpesa Premier League

With two matches to go before the season concludes, attention has turned to the battle against relegation as well as for a place in the top eight.

Western Stima coach Henry Omino has not got over the fact that his side were denied a clear win against Chemelil last weekend after their opponents were awarded a penalty for the match to end 1-1.

Omino believes that result denied his side a top five position but believes finishing in the top eight remains a big possibility as he guides his team against Bandari today away.

“We have not got over that dubious penalty awarded to our opponents last weekend. It has killed our ambitions of finishing among the top five as we had planned.

“However, we remain in contention for a top eight finish which is open to a number of teams tied on 34 points each,” he said.

Apart from Stima, other teams that are in line for a top eight position are Mathare United, Sony Sugar, Ushuru and Thika United.

Speaking on their expectations against Bandari, Omino said it will be a tough match for his side who nonetheless remain committed to pick all maximum points.

“Playing Bandari is always tough. In the first leg, they gave us a rough time and we do not expect it any easier,” he said.

With Stima chasing a top eight finish, the porters will be keen to move up in the standings. They are currently placed fifth on 42 points aided by a good run in the second leg of the league.

Aside from the fight for a top eight position, the other battle this weekend will focus on the relegation candidates.

KCB will be involved in a fight of their lives when they host Ulinzi Stars at City Stadium today.

Another loss by the bankers who were shocked 1-0 by Nairobi City Stars last weekend will be the end of them but a win will significantly boost their chances.

The bankers are fighting relegation for the second year in a row which is a frustrating battle for a team that just finished fourth in 2013 after collecting 50 points.

Inspired by last weekend’s win over KCB, City Stars will be seeking to make it two wins in a row against Ushuru at Ruaraka Stadium also today.

Another win for the Kawangware side and a slip up by the bankers will spell doom for KCB as City Stars will go on top of them on the log.

City Stars will once again look upto Ugandan import Jimmy Bageya for help in navigating this difficult fixture.
