After months of push and pull, Sofapaka have finally agreed to release defender Eugene Asike. Club chairman Elly Kalekwa said yesterday they had taken the decision so as to preserve the integrity of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL). “We have been having problems with Asike for a long time and now the KPL has been dragged into it. For the sake of the integrity of the league, we have decided to let him go. KPL have the authority to release him,” he said. Asike fell out with the club over non-payment of his salary. First the player took Sofapaka to court and then the KPL complaints committee ordered the club to release him, but they declined.
