FKF meeting: Only 10 Super League clubs to vote in SGM

Former FKF Vice Chairman Sammy Sholei

Only 10 out of the 24 clubs making the National Super League will be allowed to take a vote during tomorrow's Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Special General Meeting in Eldoret.

Five clubs from each of the two zones have officially been invited to attend the meeting, according to an invitation letter signed by FKF Secretary General Michael Esakwa.

The clubs set to cast their votes alongside the 16 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) sides are Kakamega Home Boyz, Shabana, West Kenya Sugar, Nzoia United and Busia United from Super League Zone B. Others are Posta Rangers, Mahakama, Modern Coast, Kariobangi Sharks and FC Talanta from Super League Zone A.

The move is raising eyebrows on the criteria used in selection of the clubs.

Esakwa's letter read in part: "Pursuant to Article 28 (1) & (4) of the Constitution of Football Kenya Federation, notice is hereby given that FKF will hold a Special General Meeting on September 26, 2014 in Eldoret at 10:00am.

"Business to be transacted during the meeting will be filling of the vacant position in the FKF National Executive Committee occasioned by the endorsement and ratification of the disciplinary decisions by second FKF Annual General Meeting of June, 27 2014.

"The meeting will fill the vacant positions for the Vice President, Coast NEC Member and Nairobi Branch Chairman."

However, FKF NEC, which met yesterday, took a common position and is scheming to have Robert Asembo fill the position of FKF Vice President, a seat which he been holding in acting capacity for two years.

In a press release, Esakwa said Simon Mugo will be presented and confirmed by the SGM to fill the position of Nairobi NEC representative to replace suspended Dan Shikanda and Omar Mohammed to take up the vacant slot of NEC Coast Representative. Hussein Terry was the former occupant.

"The above-mentioned proposals by the NEC are geared towards building a strong Federation and the NEC is humbly appealing to the SGM delegates to support the proposals," said Esakwa.
