Nairobi: Kenya’s Aden Marwa paired with South African referee

Aden Marwa

Assistant referee Aden Marwa will officiate at the Fifa World Cup alongside South African centre referee Daniel Bennet. Marwa, 37, is one of three East African referees to fly the region’s flag in Brazil.

The other two are Jean Claude Birumushau (Burundi) and Felicien Kabanda (Rwanda). Marwa, a teacher at Komotobo Secondary in Kuria, has seen his star rise in the last five years culminating in a World Cup showing that gets under way on June 12. He has also officiated AFCON 2012 and 2013 besides the Fifa World Cup Under-17 and Africa’s Under-23 Olympic-qualifying tourney.
