More branches call for FKF Special General Meeting

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) branch officials have   challenged FKF President Sam Nyamweya to call for a Special General Meeting (SGM) to iron out urgent and important federation issues.

The officials from Mt.Kenya, Nyanza West, Upper Eastern and South Coast said there is need to ratify the newly created National Super League, which is not in the FKF constitution.

They also want the power vacuum, for various posts at the federation filled because it is interfering with operations and development of football at the grassroots.

While referring to last years’ Annual General Meeting (AGM), they said they want the federation to officially effect the strategic plan discussed as the branches are eager to be part of it.

“We were to have the SGM in January but so far there is no communication from the main office. We give Nyamweya a seven day ultimatum to set a date for it or we look for the way forward,” Kimani Kiarie, Mt.Kenya branch chairman told FeverPitch yesterday.

“Right now the country’s football decisions are made by only four executives instead of eight. This is not good as some regions are not properly represented in the national office and some important issues affecting other parts of the country are left out.”

Federation officials suspended from the national office include Sammy Sholei (vice chairman), Dan Shikanda (FKF Nairobi chairman), Hussein Terry (NEC member, Coast) and Tom Alila (NEC member, Nyanza).

Nyanza West Secretary General, James Omondi, told FeverPitch that there has been a great disconnect of football activities in the region since Alila’s suspension.

“We feel unrepresented. We don’t feel the federation down here,” said Omondi.

The football stakeholders said they need a quick ratification of the National Super League in the FKF constitution saying its a a time bomb waiting to explode. They also want the Provincial League scrapped in line with the Kenyan constitution that now recognises the counties.

“The FKF constitution only recognises the Premier, Division One, Provincial, County and District Leagues but there is no provision for the National Super League, its not well defined in our football rules,” said South Coast Branch chairman Hamisi Mwayoyo.
