Kenya: Football Kenya Federation (FKF) yesterday maintained the suspensions on its top officials amid intense lobbying.

Sources said the affected officials succeeded in lobbying delegates against serving suspensions for specified period, something that would have locked them out of football for an unspecified period of time.

Addressing the press after the day long meeting, FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya  said the Annual General Meeting gave the officials more time to produce certain documents before a decision can be made on their fate.

“Sammy  Sholei and Dan Shikanda appeared before us today. Sholei admitted to have gone to court to stop our Special General Meeting only to realise that it was the wrong thing to do.

“Shikanda denied ever going to court and dismissed that court papers presented to the meeting were a forgery. In this regard, and in the interest of fairness, we have given them time to withdraw the case if it is there and then we can discuss their matter at a later date,” he said.

The FKF boss did not, however, say how long this will take. But the two said they did not go to court and cannot withdraw a case they have not filed.

“We have been treated unfairly because we were hoping a decision would be made. They should have asked us to come with evidence,” the two told Standard on Saturday.

Sholei said he had been given two days notice to turn up for the meeting.

Regarding the suspension of Tom Alila, Nyamweya said the official has been asked to account for monies he is alleged to have misappropriated.

However, Alila questioned the decision, insisting that the federation’s accounts had been passed in the morning without any queries regarding any misappropriated funds.

“If I had misappropriated any funds then this should have been captured in the financial report but it did not happen therefore there is no case against me,” he said.

FKF Coast branch officials Asha Pili, Evans Mwachia and Hamisi Mayoyo had their suspensions lifted together with that of referee GMT Ottieno.
