An elaborate network of unscrupulous dealers, motor repairers and criminals is selling defective, counterfeit or non-existent vehicle tracking devices to unsuspecting customers. This menace has led to a growing number of individuals unable to recover stolen vehicles, with insurance firms incurring huge losses in the form of claims. "Unfortunately, some insurance firms and unsuspecting clients have been duped into this idea that a fleet management device operates as a stolen vehicle recovery gadget," says Mr Andrew Saisi, Managing Director, CarTrack Kenya. It is due to lack of public knowledge on how the device works that crooks are exploiting motor vehicle owners and insurance companies.
