Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) RFC will be seeking to redeem themselves at the second leg of the National Sevens Circuit, Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa this weekend.

MMUST played poorly at the Dala Sevens hosted in Kisumu and they will be hoping for an improvement performance at the coastal city.

The university students went down to Western Bulls 19-12 in 13th Place finals to cap a disappointing show at the Lakeside City last week, results MMUST coach John Asila believes they have the quality to bounce back at Mombasa Sports Club starting today.

Speaking to Standard Sports, Asila said they are eyeing the Main Cup quarter-finals.

“It was a lesson for us in Kisumu where we did not play as we had planned and expected. We have had a week to reflect and now I believe we can play better than we did. It will be a tough one considering the group but we have to be better,” said Asila.

MMUST are in Group C alongside circuit defending champions Menengai Oilers, Dala Sevens bronze medallists Strathmore Leos and Catholic Monks.

Circuit leaders KCB will be out to extend their advantage but will have to contend with the challenge from Kabras Sugar, defending Driftwood champions Mwamba among other teams.

Western Bulls and Makueni who were both relegated after failing to make the top 12 in Kisumu have their work cut out in the unforgiving second tier that is known to spring surprises.
