Kenya is playing host to seven nations in week-long coaching and match officials course that aims at growing the rugby league in Africa.

The event held in Nairobi brings together 40 participants. Coaches and referees from Ghana, Cameroon, Burundi, Nigeria, South Africa and DR Congo are attending the course which is supported by Rugby League World Cup through the International Development Programme and is facilitated by foreign experts.

Speaking during the workshop, Remond Safi; Middle East Africa Regional Director at European League said the preseason course is an opportunity for all coaches and referees.

“With this kind of exchange programme, the participants will network which leads to international assignments,” Safi said. This is the second event of its kind after a successful one a year ago in Lagos.

Other facilitators in the clinic include Andrew Pilkington, Warren Prestious from South Africa and Stephanie Bredenhann from Europe.

The course involves both theory and practical with participants breaking for 2 hours for practical at Harlequin grounds.
