Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) RFC captain Samuel Mbeche is upbeat of earning promotion to the Kenya Cup ahead of their semifinal playoffs against Mean Machine.

Speaking during an interview with the Standard Sports, Mbeche said he believes they need to redeem themselves with the promotion after they were knocked out by Kisumu FC last season.

He said they need to have a happy ending especially after a stellar performance that saw them finish runner-up during the regular 2019-2020 KRU Championship season. Their only loss was against eventual table toppers Strathmore Leos.

“We are ready. We did everything right in the regular season. We just need to seal the deal by earning promotion to the top tier league,” said Mbeche.

“We played and won several matches at home and since we are hosting Mean Machine, we have the advantage of being being cheered on by our fans.”

Mbeche’s sentiments were echoed by MMUST head coach Ahaya Ochieng who said he has a fit squad, which has been training for the last one month.

“Since the government gave us the go-ahead to play, we have hit the gym and workouts in the field. So far, I'm happy with what the boys have shown me. Everyone if focused, hungry and energised ahead of the games,” said the coach.

Ochieng downplayed inexperience in the team, saying his boys are ready for action.

Strathmore Leos and Northern Suburbs will play in the other semi.
