'Green' building certification board set up

A board to ensure buildings do not interfere with the environment has been launched.

The Green Africa Buildings Standardisation and Certification Board, comprising professionals from nine organisations, was unveiled on February 21 in Nairobi.

The board will guide the development of building standards and certification system.

Representatives are drawn from Architectural Association of Kenya, Institute of Engineers of Kenya, Kenya Bureau of Standards, Housing, Public Works and Environment ministries, Nairobi City Council, Mutiso Menezes International and Global Engineering International.

Allan Simu was elected chairman and Charles Sikuku as vicechair. Green Africa Foundation chairman Isaac Kalua challenged them to develop all inclusive standardisation and certification system.
