Four suspects believed to have stolen G3 firearms from Kamorwon AP Post in Nandi County as the officers watched a UEFA Champions League match in April were on Saturday arrested and the guns recovered.

The detectives had been pursuing thugs who broke into Nandi South Administration Police Camp and made away with G3 rifles and an unknown number of bullets.

The officers on duty had left the camp and went to a nearby trading centre to enjoy a match between Manchester United and Barcelona.

On returning to the post, they discovered that the room of the officer-in-charge, which also serves as an armoury, was open. They walked in to find the steel box, in which firearms are kept, broken.

“Three firearms and rounds of ammunition that were stolen from an AP Camp in Nandi South were last night recovered following an intelligence-based operation in Nandi, Kakamega and Uasin Gishu counties,” DCI said on its Twitter handle.

The first suspect arrested Fredrick Khamisi led officers to the arrest of one of his accomplices Gladys Chao after being interrogated. The two took the officers to an unoccupied house in Langas where a gun and bullets were found.

Detectives later managed to arrest Josphat Kinyanjui and Stephen Njoroge during the swoop and recovered two other guns buried in a farm.

“The two other suspects Kinyanjui and Njoroge were arrested in Langas in connection with the stolen G3 rifles,” said DCI.

The recovered rifles and bullets will be used as evidence during their arraignment.
