A General Service Unit lorry has been impounded by police while ferrying a 450 cedar post in Chepalungu.

The lorry belonging to Nemesis GSU camp was involved in an accident along at Kusanga along Siongiroi-Chebunyo-Kaboson road.

Chepalungu Sub County Police Commander Nelson Masaai said that investigations revealed that the lorry was ferrying the posts before the accident.

Masaai said a Sergeant and two GSU officers boarded the ill-fated lorry.

He said the lorry slipped and overturned at around 6:00am Monday morning.

Locals interviewed by the Standard said that the lorry, registered under number plate GKB 447 frequents the route weekly.

“The lorry is always on this road and it’s only following the accident that we discovered it is being used to ferry illegal cedar post,” said one resident who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“We are investigating the incident though we have not arrested the officers who were involved,” he said.

Locals say they suspect the post were being transported from Trans Mara area where the lorry was traveling from.
