Two suspects in possession of 10 tonnes of sandalwood have been arrested.

County Commander Stephen Matu said the lorry driver and an accomplice were arrested on Tuesday evening.

“The two were arrested at Mau Summit along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway. The lorry was towed to Nakuru East Police Station,” said Mr Matu.

The suspects claimed they were hired to ferry the consignment to Busia from Nyahururu.

“We have launched a search for the owner. We have to establish the source of the timber and how the logging was permitted," said Matu.
