Nakuru County Assembly committee threatens to sue Lands minister

A Nakuru County Assembly committee has threatened to sue the Lands, Physical Planning and Housing executive.

Finance committee Chairman John Gicamu said they will take Rachael Wanjiku Maina  to court for ignoring their summons.

He accused the county executive committee member (CEC) of snubbing the committee's invitations and resorting to sending text messages to him or the assembly clerk requesting not to appear.

"This committee communicates through official letters and not phone calls or short text messages. In the past, the same CEC has ignored official summons and that is why as a house committee we are taking legal action against her," he said.

Gicamu said four letters to her office have not been responded to and accused Ms Wanjiku of demeaning the committee.

"I want to inform you that this committee is not happy with you. To claim that the governor recalled you while on your way is not adding up. You kept the entire committee waiting for you the whole day," said the chairman.

However, the CEC said the county assembly clerk cleared her to attend Governor Kinuthia Mbugua's function.

She said the governor had a meeting in Naivasha where land matters were being discussed and she had no option but to be present.
