Teachers in the county have officially launched the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) campaigns, with contestants calling for sober and issue-based politics.

The over 300 teachers, who converged at Lolboiti Primary School over the weekend, called for clean leadership that will deliver them from the challenges facing them in their places of work.

Contestants for various posts took the opportunity to present their manifestos to the teachers ahead of the February 17 elections. Those vying for the union's influential slots decried lack of proper leadership by the previous officials, promising to turn around the union as well as unite all teachers across the county.

Simiren Soiyiantet is vying for the executive secretary position. For the union's chairman position, Richard Simotwo will battle it out with Edwin Sang, while Boniface Punyua will battle for deputy chair against Wilson Tololo.

The contestants also called on the teachers not to be divided along tribal, clan and regional affiliations.
