Lodwar, Kitale route needs escort

Public service vehicle (PSV) operators and Chamber of Commerce and Industry players want the national government to introduce a police escort unit along the Kitale-Lodwar road to protect users from bandit attacks.

Trans-Nzoia Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chief Executive Martin Waliaula said bandit attacks are a serious threat to the economy of West Pokot and Turkana counties.

Last weekend, bandits attacked Dayar Bus Company and shot dead one passenger, wounding others.

The bandits also held up another bus from the same company at gunpoint and robbed passengers. The PSV operators, led by James Muigai have pleaded with the Government to provide security to the road users.

"As investors, we are alarmed by the highway bandit attacks. We appeal to the Government to introduce a police escort," he said.

West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo has asked the Government to beef up security along the road to end the insecurity menace.
