MP gives 77 self-help groups Sh5m Uwezo funds

Uasin-Gishu, Kenya: Seventy-seven self-help groups of Moiben constituency are to benefit from the Uwezo Fund kitty.

Some of the groups have already started benefiting from the funds that are to boost their economic empowerment.

Area MP Silas Tiren said the qualified groups are to benefit from the initial disbursement of Sh5 million.

“Disbursement of the Uwezo Funds is ongoing and the groups that have already qualified for the funds had applied for between Sh50,000 and Sh100,000 to boost their ventures,” said Mr Tiren.

The legislator said the Jubilee government is fulfilling its manifesto by releasing development funds to youth and women groups for their economic empowerment.

RE-RUN MONEY

“The Jubilee administration is fulfilling its promise of releasing funds that could have been used in an election re-run to empower communities to improve their income and better their living standards,” said Tiren.

Speaking after distributing cheques to groups at the Teachers Advisory Centre (TAC) in Eldoret, the MP challenged the benefiting groups to invest the funds wisely in viable projects that will transform their living standards.

Registered women and youth groups benefited from the funds to enhance and boost their business and agricultural enterprises in the constituency.

The legislator praised development programmes that have been initiated by the Government towards expanding opportunities for youth and women to make them self-reliant and also contribute in national development.
