Nakuru, Kenya: An eight-year-old girl has been admitted at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital after her brother-in-law allegedly defiled her.

The minor was staying with her sister at their home in Lower Solai Village, Rongai District, when she was allegedly defiled on Wednesday night.

And when The Standard visited the minor in hospital yesterday, it was clear that she was still in pain and could barely walk.

The minor’s mother said her daughter has been staying at the home of her elder daughter for the last three months before the unfortunate event.

“My daughter took her young sibling to provide company for her other children. I am in great shock at what happened to her in the hands of her brother-in-law,” said.

The Standard Three girl said she was asleep when she was attacked. “I was asleep in a separate room when my brother-in-law came to the room, tied my mouth and begun abusing me,” she said. After defiling the girl, the suspect locked the room and went back to sleep with his wife in their separate bedroom.

Threatened to kill

In the morning, when the suspect realised that the girl had informed his wife, he threatened to kill them. The minor then escaped to seek her mother’s assistance tens of kilometres away.

On receiving her daughter on Monday, five days after the defilement, the mother reported the incident to the police and took her to hospital where she is being treated.

“I am hoping my child will soon heal and justice will be done to apprehend the suspect,” said Keittany. The Nursing Officer in Charge of Rift Valley Provincial Hospital John Ochola said the girl is in stable condition. Dr Ochola added the girl is also undergoing trauma counselling at the facility.

Rongai Police Station OCPD Joseph Mwamburi said the police are conducting investigations. Meanwhile, the suspect, a boda boda operator, has since surrendered himself to the police.
