Pyrethrum farmers demand Sh10m dues

West Pokot County: About 1,000 pyrethrum farmers in West Pokot County want the Government to pay them over Sh10 million for supply of the produce since 2011.

Leader of Majority in the West Pokot County Assembly Simon Kalekem blamed the Pyrethrum Board for mismanagement.

“Our farmers are tired of waiting for their dues, which should have been paid long ago,” he said.

Hundreds of acres of land that were under pyrethrum some years ago have been turned into grazing fields as the farmers turn to livestock rearing.

One of the farmers, James Chumum, called for an overhaul of the pyrethrum sector, including the removal of officers who were not committed to their duties.
