Former prison warder behind Nakuru extortion scam arrested

Nakuru, Kenya: A former prison guard behind a series of extortion claims leveled against security agents in Nakuru County has been arrested.

Samuel Ekasi Lemo, who has been posing as a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer, was arrested near Ravine road while trying to extort money from the public.

Confirming the incident, Nakuru Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Bernard Kioko said police officers trailing the suspect after receiving complaints from the public.

“Police officers intercepted after receiving complaints from the public and later arrested him while harassing the public,” said the OCPD.

He said Lemo is an ex-prisoner warder interdicted on grounds of indiscipline and that he was taking advantage of his previous employment with prisons to arrest innocent people.

The OCPD said investigation conducted by police officers last week revealed the imposter ceased being an employee of Kenya Prisons Services several years ago.

“Limo is a former prison warder who took advantage of his experience with Kenya Prisons Services years back,” said Kioko.

The arrest of the ex-prison warder comes amid growing concern by residents of Nakuru County over increased incidences of criminals.

They claim police officers might be involved because in most incidences, the criminals are dressed in police uniforms and in possession of guns.
