Trans-Nzoia, Kenya: General Service Unit (GSU) officers have been deployed to quell rising crime in Trans-Nzoia County.

During a security meeting chaired by the Governor Patrick Khaemba, it was resolved that GSU personnel be deployed to beef up security in the county. More vehicles have also been dispatched to Saboti and Gitwamba areas following gang attacks.

On Saturday night, a marauding gang is reported to have shot dead four people and injured six others and robbed traders of Sh2 million at Muloki market.

Khaemba said the GSU personnel would launch a crackdown on crime. “We have called in GSU and provided more vehicles to enhance security patrols,” he said.

Khaemba accompanied by Trans Nzoia women representative Janet Nangabo and Senator Henry ole Ndiema said the deployment had curbed crime.

County Commissioner Mrs Charity Chepkong’a announced that a security post had been set up at Muloki area to protect residents.

Nangabo said the Government should foot the bills the injured people incurred while seeking treatment and meet the funeral costs of the deceased.

The leaders visited the survivors at Kitale District Hospital and pledged to ensure the Government foots their bills.
