Governor names just one person to his Cabinet

Trans Nzoia, Kenya: Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Simiyu Khaemba has named only one member to his Cabinet following approval by the county assembly.

Mr Andrew Wanyonyi, who will head the Finance docket, was backed by assembly members when his name was tabled.

Alfred Weswa, Leader of Majority, proposed the name and was seconded before being supported by all the 25 county assembly members.

Wanyonyi served as treasurer at Nzoia County Council and also worked in Mombasa and Nairobi before being moved to Narok in the same capacity.

“Wanyonyi has a vast experience in financial matters in public service and also his academic credentials are credible and we are optimistic that he will definitely help transform the county,” said Sikhendu Ward Representative Andrew Kutitila.

Speaker David Sifuna announced the nominee after members supported without objection. The Governor forwarded the name of his nominee for the Finance docket to facilitate the reading of the budget estimates.

Budget adopted

The budget was tabled and adopted by the assembly and would be read on Thursday.

Wanyonyi’s nomination and approval by the assembly was supported by other stakeholders in the county led by Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer Mr Martin Waliaula.

Waliaula said credible persons were required to lead the county in a bid to revitalise the county’s economy.

Meanwhile, intense lobbying for executive positions in the county is on with residents calling for approval of reliable persons.

Key campaigners of Khaemba are angling themselves to take up some of the positions in the county. Mr Ken Simiyu and Patrick Simiyu, Khaemba’s key campaigners, are among those expected to be nominated to the assembly Cabinet.

Khaemba is said to be mapping out a formidable formula to nominate persons to represent the interests of all ethnic communities.
