Turkana top boy appeals for help

By OSINDE OBARE

The top boy in Turkana County in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams wants to be a neurosurgeon.

Ogada Otieno Jeff, 14, scored 408 marks out of the possible 500, attributing his exemplary performance to hard work and inspiration. The son of a single mother hopes to join Starehe Boys Centre.

“When my name was read by the Education minister I dashed to school where I was joined by teachers and pupils in celebrating my good performance,” he said. Jeff, a former pupil of Loyo Primary School in Turkana, already has his sights trained on the medical profession but needs financial assistance to pursue his dream.

“It is my desire to emulate Ben Carson who is the world’s leading neurosurgeon so that I can help the nation as a whole,” he said. Jeff’s mother, Everlyn Ogada, said she had been praying for her son to succeed in his studies and help the family.
