Yegon had an argument with his wife whom he  accused her of having an affair before committing the heinous act

A village in Nandi County is still reeling in shock after a man hacked his two children to death and injured his wife before committing suicide.

Francis Yegon, 30, of Kibungu village in Chepkumia location is reported to have gone berserk after quarrelling with his wife on the fateful Saturday night. He allegedly took a machete and attacked his wife who escaped with some injuries before turning on his children.

The culprit’s wife, Mrs Chepketer Yegon, raised the alarm but neighbours arrived when Yegon had already snuffed out the lives of the two children.

Confirming the incident, Kapsabet OCPD Nelson Okioga said the man killed his 4-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter before hanging himself with a rope.

“He locked himself in the house where he had killed his children and committed suicide,” said the police chief.

Okioga explained that the couple is reported to have had an argument after the husband arrived from a ceremony from a neighbouring village.

The OCPD said trouble started when the culprit’s wife went back home leaving the husband behind who suspected she was having an affair.

“His wife told us that she had left to attend to household duties but her husband thought that she might have been having an affair with another man,” said Okioga.

Okioga condemned the incident and called on the public to seek counselling when faced with marital disputes. The bodies of the two children and their father were taken to Kapsabet District mortuary.

Elsewhere, a man killed his 29-year-old wife in Nyalenda area, Kisumu County after reportedly hitting her with a blunt object.

The incident occurred near Oboch Market, yesterday at around 5am, following a domestic row. A witness, Bon Were, said the house help alerted the neighbours when she found the deceased unconscious.  The body was taken to Nyanza Provincial Hospital mortuary.

Kisumu OCPD Musa Kongoli said the suspect is still at large, adding that police are seeking the house help to assist with further investigations.
