Major showbiz events and projects for in 2013

The year is still fresh, many a resolution are yet to be tossed aside in that jolly-mood, but as Geoffrey Korio, Austine Okande and Sherly Genga discovered, showbiz never sleeps. These are some of the projects to look out for, already, in 2013.

Big Kev and Trueblaq Projects

Showbiz juggernaut Big Kev had a successful 2012 and so far this year seems to be no exception as he plans several entertainment projects.

“Right now I am working on sensitising the masses on peaceful elections. There are plans for doing big internationally-standardised shows across the country,” remarks Big Kev.

Maina Kageni going showbiz

Seasoned radio presenter Maina Kageni is not lagging behind in this year’s showbiz scene. While maintaining a healthy dose of ambiguity, he tells Pulse that he is planning to bring a three member all-boys RnB group to perform in the capital early this year.

“All I can tell you is that it’s going to be a big concert with one of the biggest RnB groups of all times; watch this space,” he says.

Janet Kirina to release new film

 Actress and musician Janet Kirina has been working on producing a new film.

“This year I plan to produce a film called My Life in Crime based on John Kiriamiti’s crime novels. I am (Kirina Productions) working together with C-Through Productions and we hope to shoot and distribute it this year,” she explains.

Janet is also working on two televisions shows. One is Glam, a co-production between Kirina Productions, Ogopa Video and Nice bird Productions.

“It is a drama series that will focus on young, hip and ambitious Kenyans. Also, I will be working on Rush, Kenya’s version of Sex and the City by C-Through Productions,” she adds.

Jimmy Gait on Make It or Make It

Gospel star and entrepreneur Jimmy Gait has plans of embarking on a nationwide tour for his brainchild, the Make it or Make it Campaign.

“The campaign will pitch camp in various towns across the country and it will now be a monthly gig,” he tells Pulse.

Daddy Owen on Pamoja Peace

In the wake of upcoming General Election, award-winner Daddy Owen is planning nationwide peace concerts. “I want to tell young people in this nation to maintain peace during this election year,” he says.

Sauti Sol on tours, new album

After releasing their Money Lover video on New Year’s Eve, Sauti Sol plans to embark on a series of tours and shows including a USA tour in May. The band will attend the Louisiana Festival the same month.

Grandpa Nite to go nationwide

Due to public demand Grandpa Records is planning to take its now-popular theme nites across Kenya.

“The concert nights will be hosted in different towns starting February. We will tap more talent from different areas,” Refigah, the Grandpa CEO comments.

Rabbit to relocate to Dar

Swahili Shakespeare lyricist Rabbit aka Kaka Sungura is in the process of closing a recording deal with a Dar-based stable that will see him relocate to the Tanzanian capital early this year.

“I intend to sign a two-year recording deal the Tanzanian based recording stable,” the talented rapper notes.

Rabbit is also set to host his own TV show dubbed Orutu Chronicle with screenings currently underway.

In April, Rabbit will be launching his second album Orutu Ya Masudi.

MOG on more songs and countrywide tours

In three weeks’ time, award-winning Gospel group MOG is set to release Baba Nifungulia, their new song featuring Tanzanian gospel singer Rose Muhando.

The group is also slated to release what they reckon will be the collabo of the year featuring the renowned American worship singer Kirk Franklin.

MOG is also set to launch Badilisha Mtaa Music tours where they intend to pick talent for their stable. The tour rolls out in March.

 Rufftone’s collabo with the GSU   

The sensation gospel vocalist Rufftone, who is also the endorsed Peace ambassador for the Tuvuke Peace Initiative, has collabo with the General Service Unit band in a peace song titled Mungu Twaombea Nchi Yetu.

The song, which has already been produced, is set to be launched in few weeks time.

 Rufftone is also set to feature in a TV drama as his new venture as a thespian and he also has a TV show lined up.

Churchill Live Comeback

The acclaimed king of comedy Daniel Ndambuki aka Churchill is set for a comeback with his hilarious comedy-cum-talk show Churchill Live that has been off air for a year.

Churchill says he is back to take comedy in Kenya and Africa to higher levels.

Moustapha in collabos

Kupe hit maker Mustafa is set to release two songs one is in collabo with Redsan and another one with Jaguar.

Kaytrixx on events management

DJ Kaytixx plans to explore. Apart from hosting an online monthly music mix show The Kaytrixx Chronicles and starting music production lessons, he plans on venturing into the world of events management. 

Jackie Nyaminde

The actress, who is famous for her role as Wibroda in Papa Shirandula hopes to tap into her music roots in 2013.

“Three years ago I was actively involved in doing back up music and I am hoping to get back to music this year,” she states.

 Together with another unnamed actress, she is working on a new reality television show.

Joseph Kimani Wairimu

Year 2012 was for the Nairobi Half Life star. This year, Joseph wants to try his hand behind the camera and get into directing this year.

Nice Githinji

The actress and movie producer, who has been strutting a hotter and trimmer figure, has a number on projects lined up for 2013. Together with fellow actress Janet Kirina and Nice Bird productions, they have just finished producing and acting in a television show called Glam. It will also be starring DJ Creme and Maryanne Nungo and Ogopa is doing the editing.

The actress also plans to finally release music this year.

 “I have been working with Anchor Records and I have just finished recording my first song. It is called Hold On and it is a rock song,” says Nice.
