The love bait

During an exclusive interview with Pulse on Monday, evicted Big Brother Africa StarGame (BBA) lovebirds Malonza and Junia confessed how their romantic spell destroyed their focus on the Sh16 million winner’s cash prize and led to their eviction.

That Sunday evening, love-struck Junia, the Namibian BBA contestant, watched in disbelief as her Kenyan boyfriend was tossed out of the BBA House. Uncontrollably, she burst into tears.

As if to grant her wish in a twisted Romeo and Juliet fashion, in another minute, the lovebirds were reunited, only this time they were outside the House, as Junia too, got ‘banished’.

The two have been the House’s kissing couple since the first moment they set their eyes on each other.

“At least I am leaving with him,” she whispered as she sighed with relief.

She waved Africa bye, and out she went.

Away from the cameras and the eyes of millions of BBA viewers from all over Africa, their love fate was sealed to their privacy.

“My love for Malonza is genuine. Our relationship wasn’t a game,” Junia affirmed when Pulse interviewed the two in a joint telephone interview on Monday.

“I will be coming to Kenya, sooner or later. We will keep it going. The door is open for him to come to Namibia,” she added, her tone evoking their fond romantic scenes that Africa had watched them flaunt over their two months’ BBA stay — earning themselves the tag name ‘The StarGame couple’.

Between animated poses, witty verbal exchanges and hearty laughs, the two engaged Pulse in a candid talk as they receded into the truth: Their love affair had distracted their focus on the game and resulted in their eviction. This was at a time when the Kenyan USIU student was largely embraced positively by Africa.

PREZZO AND GOLDIE HATE

“Junia is an awesome person. She is a happy girl. She was my life in BBA. I had a different mindset before I went into the house. As time wore on, things got crazy. It is a psychological game and I found myself edging towards Junia,” Malonza remarked.

“I had to choose between Malonza and the money. I think I made the right choice. I lost focus on the game and I have no regrets. He is not fake. There are so many things I want from him and I have already told him all that,” the 23-year old Windhoek beauty disclosed.

Asked if their relationship placed them in an awkward position against the other contestants, the two nodded saying not every housemate was happy about their love.

In fact, the two noted that alliances and relationships are a major factor in the way contestants shape opinions for or against each other.

“Some people might not like the way you sit on the couch and enjoy yourself as it might be the case with Prezzo and Goldie now. Sometimes you are so cut off that you may not even know what they discuss about you,” Malonza quipped.

“BBA is a lifetime opportunity. I have done my best and I leave the rest to my brother Alex. I pray that he brings the money home as it will equally be my money,” the 22-year old Malonza noted, perhaps unaware of the not-so-flattering remarks that Alex, too, had of their relationship.
