The Universities and Colleges Football League (UCFL) defending champions Zetech College atoned for their 4-0 thrashing by former champions Nairobi Aviation College during the opening match of the league with a 5-0 routing of Karen Technical School for the Deaf at the weekend.

Nairobi Aviation College showed their intention to recapture the trophy they lost to Zetech last season by edging Karen Technical School for the Deaf, who had a bad weekend, 1-0 in a tough and entertaining encounter at Kabete Technical Training College grounds. Aviation scored through Johnstone Kiongera in the 76th minute.

National Youth Service- Nairobi Holding Unit (NYS-NHU) extended their good run in UCFL, edging Mt Kenya University 2-1 at Kabete Technical grounds on Sunday. NYS-NHU scored through George Kamau before teammate George Akhonya made it 2-0.

Mt Kenya University piled more pressure on the opponents and this bore fruit when Joseph Wachira, who was fouled in the opponents’ box in the dying minutes of the game, converted a penalty.

NYS-NHU coach Harrison Oduya, who was elated by his side’s good run in the league this season said: "We are able to do well because of hard work and discipline in the squad, we are focused on lifting the UCFL title and with the support from our commanding officer James Mmata, we are confident of lifting the crown this time round."

In another encounter, NYS-Vocational Training Institute held Inoorero University to a one-all draw. Joseph Musila scored for VTI in the 50th minute before Inoorero equalised through Martin Kimathi in the 80th minute.

The hosts Kabete Technical College’s woes deepened after Mt Kenya University hit them 1-0 through Simeon Mulama’s 90th minute cracker that sent Kabete custodian the wrong way.

This came after Kabete lost by a similar margin to Nairobi Institute of Business Studies in their first match of the season a fortnight ago.

Meanwhile, Kenya Polytechnic University College thrashed Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology 8-0 in the ongoing Universities and Colleges Hockey league at the weekend.

Kenya Polytechnic University scored through Gideon Kimungi who netted a hat-trick. Other scorers were Erick Ochieng’, Denis Gitonga, Tom Mumo, Joseph Ndegwa and Elly Ashiono.
