Mathare snatch Sh10m G4S package

Former Kenyan Premier League champions Mathare United have received a sponsorship worth Sh10 million from the world’s leading security solutions group G4S to help them during this season’s league from next month.

The deal will see G4S gain branding and merchandising rights for all Mathare United matches.

"We are proud to be associated with Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) and now Mathare United, such an inspirational and productive Kenyan community success story. Our support for the club is not only a sound marketing investment but a great ethical one too," said G4S Country Managing Director John Wheater.

Through the deal, G4S will secure four prime publicity spots at all Mathare home matches. G4S logos will also adorn all Mathare United livery and match uniform, which would soon be unveiled to the club fans and general public.

"We have decided to let the experts run football and we do our stuff. That is why we are sponsoring Mathare United instead of revamping our team Securicor," said Wheater.

Mathare United founder Bob Munro noted that the partnership would create greater public exposure for G4S through uniform branding and match billboards, including on TV in Kenya and Africa through the match broadcasts by SuperSport and the national broadcaster.

Munro noted that G4S was not the exclusive sponsor of the team this year and said they were still looking for an exclusive sponsor.

"We are still in talks with a number of corporate companies for the exclusive sponsorship and our sponsor last season, Kenya Data Networks, is one of them," said Munro.
