Dagoretti Corner thrashed Vision Academy 3-0 in the boys’ Under-13 category as the Orange Mabingwa football tournament started in Nairobi on Wednesday.

The Dagoretti Constituency contest saw Dagoretti’s Ronny Alusa score a brace in the first half, before Julius Wachira sealed the deal from a spot-kick after the breather after being brought down in the box.

Later in the day, Dagoretti Academy edged Gentiana Primary School 8-7 after tying 1-1 in normal time, prompting penalty shootouts, where Dagoretti netted seven as their counterparts scored six.

In Lang’ata Constituency contest, which was also staged in Harlequins grounds, South ‘C’ Combined were too good for Kibera Soweto who they beat 3-0 in a fast and entertaining encounter.

South ‘C’ Combined’s prolific striker Ramon Wambua netted a brace in the 12th and 18th minutes before Evans Miano netted their third with a superb low shot that sent the opponent’s custodian the wrong way in the 32nd minute.

There were contests in six other Nairobi constituencies including Embakasi, Kamukunji, Kasarani, Makadara, Starehe and Westlands yesterday. Orange officials said they would announce prizes for the tournament that ends in mid November later.

About 104 teams from various schools across Nairobi have registered for the event. This includes 16 girls and 88 boys’ teams.

Each constituency has 13 teams from which two (one boys and a girls’ team) will proceed to the next level to be played on round robin format. "Four top teams in both categories will proceed to the semi-final playoffs," said Gerald Chege, the event coordinator.
